Services Provided: Water Damage
Application: Residential
Late one evening, Xtreme Drying got a call from a homeowner reporting wet carpet inside a bedroom closet. When our team arrived, we discovered the damage was much more extensive: water had traveled under the home’s slab, affecting wood flooring across multiple rooms.
The leak’s location beneath the slab made access especially challenging. Even more delicate was the homeowner’s custom-built-in wall entertainment center, which was mounted over the soaked flooring. The client was understandably upset at the thought of dismantling their custom cabinetry. We took extra care during disassembly so that the structure could be reassembled later with minimal repairs.
Our first step was a thorough moisture and leak investigation. Specialized moisture meters and thermal imaging helped us trace the water path and pinpoint the slab leak. Once identified, we secured the source and began containment to prevent further spread.
After isolating the leak, we removed carpet and underlayment in the affected areas and began controlled demolition of wet materials. Because water had wicked beneath adjacent sections, we expanded our removal to include flooring layers beneath hardwood in adjoining rooms.
Rather than brute‑force removal, our technicians documented and labeled every piece of the entertainment center before carefully taking it apart. This precision ensured that when the home was fully dried, the structure could be reinstalled with minimal cosmetic restoration.
With the wet materials removed, we deployed high‑capacity air movers, dehumidifiers, and air scrubbing equipment. Our goal was to maintain drying pressure and air circulation to draw moisture out of subflooring and studs. Throughout this phase, we performed continuous measurements with moisture probes and humidity sensors to track progress.
Because drying was aggressive but controlled, we avoided secondary damage like warping or cracking. We monitored the environment until the entire zone met drying benchmarks—ensuring no hidden pockets of moisture remained.
Once all readings were within an acceptable range, we began reinstallation. The custom-built-in center was reassembled, and new flooring sections were matched to the original. Our restoration team performed finishing touches, blending transitions to make repairs indistinguishable from the surrounding areas.
From the moment we arrived to the final walkthrough, the client was kept fully informed and involved. The leak was stopped, the structure dried in just a few days, and the custom furniture was restored with minimal visible repair. The homeowner expressed relief not only about the fast timeline but also about preserving their custom home features.
